The corrosion potential of aluminium alloys depends upon the quantity of certain elements present in the solid solution. The ASTM C876-22 test method calculates the corrosion potential of aluminium and its alloys in an aqueous solution of sodium chloride.
This test method can be deployed to determine the effectiveness of:
1.Solution heat treating and annealing
2.Extent of precipitation during artificial ageing and welding
3.Extent of diffusion of alloying elements from the core into the cladding of Alclad products
This test procedure includes the estimation of Corrosion potential of uncoated rebar and lab concrete at both onsite and Laboratory, to determine corrosion action of reinforcement steel. This test method can be used at any time during the lifetime of a concrete item. This test procedure is applicable regardless of members their size or the concrete cover of the reinforcement rebar. The results obtained using this test method should not be considered as a means of estimating the structural properties of the steel or reinforced concrete element.
Potential measurements are interpreted by our trained engineers or technicians with experience in: concrete materials and corrosion tests. Often it is necessary to use other data such as chloride content, depth of carbonation, results of the delamination study, the results of the corrosion rate and environmental exposure conditions, as well as measurements of the corrosion potential, to formulate conclusions on this corrosion activity of the embedded steel and its likely effect on the useful life of a structure.
