This is an NACE TM0284-2016 test method that calculates the resistance of pipelines and pressure vesselplates to HIC. This HIC is generally caused by hydrogen absorption through aqueous sulphide corrosion.Any test piece that has failed to function, is checked for three ratios through optical microscopes,namely – crack sensitivity, crack length, and crack thickness.HIC occurs in carbon or low-alloy steels when atomic hydrogen diffuses into them andforms molecular hydrogen. The formation of molecular hydrogen can be facilitated by inclusions orentrapment sites. Therefore, HIC can also occur without stress. The formation of molecular hydrogenputs the material under internal pressure and initiates cracks. This standard specifies a test method forevaluating the resistance of steel plates pipes and pressure vessels to HIC caused by the absorption ofhydrogen by aqueous sulphide corrosion..
