This is an NACE TM0284-2016 test method that calculates the resistance of pipelines and pressure vesselplates to HIC. This HIC is generally caused by hydrogen absorption through aqueous sulphide corrosion.Any test piece that has failed to function, is checked for three ratios through optical microscopes, namely – crack sensitivity, crack length, and crack thickness.HIC occurs in carbon or low-alloy steels when atomic hydrogen diffuses into them andforms molecular hydrogen. The formation of molecular hydrogen can be facilitated by inclusions orentrapment sites. Therefore, HIC can also occur without stress. The formation of molecular hydrogenputs the material under internal pressure and initiates cracks. This standard specifies a test method forevaluating the resistance of steel plates pipes and pressure vessels to HIC caused by the absorption ofhydrogen by aqueous sulphide corrosion.

Biocompatibility measures how compatible a device or component is with a biological system. The goal of this test is to determine how fit isa device for human use, and to diagnose any potentially harmful physiological effects the device can have on humans Two main processes are involved in biocompatibility testing.
1. Toxicology: Unless otherwise engineered for safety purposes, this testtype checks how toxic is a biomaterial when in use.
2. Biocompatibility: The materials used need to be non-toxic to performparticular physiological functions. These functions include that of stent, knee replacement, dentistry equipment, surgical implants, andinstruments. Thus, in short, biocompatibility will determine the abilityof a material to co-exist and perform with a natural substance

Scope | UV Test |
Our fully-equipped corrosion testing laboratory studies the effect of customizable atmospheric conditions on various coating combinations. We house a QUV test chamber that constitutes fluorescent lamps to produce lights in the UV spectrum, instils humidity via forced condensation, and regulates temperature through automated sensors.
We understand the negative impact of incident radiation in the form of light. Be it anything between bultraviolet to infrared waves, they are sufficient to damage a variety of coating components due to long exposure. To avoid this structural disaster and to fight the loss of the coating material's properties, we undertake laboratory tests that simulate a test environment and understand the coated component's structural and compositional change over time.
Applicable to all type of coatings, this test method permits an individual comparison between different coats, exposed to similar conditions.

Specification Development
- In the complex process of new product development – conception, design, prototyping, testing – it is sometimes easy to overlook the cost savings and performance optimization that can be achieved by expert material and processing specification.
- Mett-Bio Metallurgical Services & Research Center engineers provide material and process specifications to obtain the highest performance for your new products at the lowest cost. Our extensive experience in specification development, as corporate engineers in past careers and through years of experience in independent materials engineering and testing, will set your company’s new product on a strong, cost-effective foundation.
Specification Review
- Material and process specifications for mature parts can easily be taken for granted and lapse into obsolescence. Even mature designs that meet performance criteria may be eligible for cost savings with new materials or processes, at no reduction in performance. Our materials engineering experts will review your existing specifications to identify potential cost savings and performance improvements.
Specification Revision
- Even mature product designs can unexpectedly become a problem when vendor supplied materials or processes change but are still in compliance with specifications that are not sufficiently precise. Older specifications may not take full advantage of the latest materials and processes. Our engineers review your current specifications, products and their application in service, then revise your specifications to achieve maximum performance and cost-effectiveness.
- Contact Metallurgical Associates to discuss specification development, review and revisions that reduce cost and improve your products performance

Biocompatibility measures how compatible a device or component is with a biological system. The goal of this test is to determine how fit is a device for human use, and to diagnose any potentially harmful
physiological effects the device can have on humans
Two main processes are involved in biocompatibility testing.
1. Toxicology: Unless otherwise engineered for safety purposes, this test type checks how toxic is a biomaterial when in use.

These functions include that of stent, knee replacement, dentistry equipment, surgical implants, and instruments. Mett-Bio metallurgical testing & services perform the following tests
1. ASTM F1089
This sub-category of biocompatibility testing evaluates the corrosion resistance of surgical
instruments. Most often, these instruments are reused in surgery and are fabricated from stainless steel
There are two unique test types in this method:
A. Boil Test
It detects free ions or any other anodic surface contaminants on stainless steel. This
method is applicable to austenitic, martensitic, precipitation hardening alloys, and ferritic materials.
B. Copper Sulphate Test
This test detects the presence of metallic ions and iron oxide on the
surface of the material. It is applicable to every above-mentioned steel type, except for martensitic
steels.
